Jharia CBM Block – I (BCCL Area)

Prabha Energy Private Limited (PEPL) PEPL is the sole operator of the Jharia CBM block I with 100% Participating Interest (PI), with rights to market the gas under a fully transparent and competitive process.

PEPL and Bharat Coking Coalfields Limited (BCCL) signed a Revenue Sharing Contract for the development of Jharia CBM block I (BCCL Leasehold Area) in September 2021. The block was awarded to PEPL, through a global bidding process in accordance to the Gazette Notification dated 8 th May, 2018 of MoPNG. Under this notification, CBM Policy 1997 was modified, granting mining lease for exploration and exploitation of Coal Bed Methane (CBM) at leasehold areas of Coal India Limited (CIL) and its Subsidiaries.

Jharia CBM Block I, in leasehold area of BCCL, consists of Kapuria, Moonidih, Jharma and Singra coal blocks, and is located in the central part of the Jharia Coalfield in the Dhanbad District of Jharkhand.

Jharia Coalfield has good potential of CBM as it houses good quality of mature coal seams, prominently coking coal.

It covers an area of about 26.55 Sq. Km, with total gas in place resource estimated of 25.22 BCM.
